Change is inevitable and can be challenging. When our family sold our East Hampton home, the new owner had no desire to keep the Lithuanian art that had been a part of this house for 50 years. It was especially hard for me as an artist to know that I only had a few weeks before the new owner took possession. Garden statues, stained glass windows, mosaics, and bas reliefs had to be removed quickly and carefully. I reached out to a local artist for help and we removed and put into storage these important art treasures. The art remained in a storage unit we found the right homes for them.
Two of my favorite art pieces from our excavation were the two ba reliefs by Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas These works had been commissioned by my father in law when the pool house was built.
My sister in law, Jurate Kazickas took the lead and forged forward with the move to the Lithuanian World Center in Lemont, Illinois. This center is the largest Lithuanian community center outside of Lithuania and a perfect new home where the art could be shared for generations to come.
