Diana Nausediene, the First Lady of Lithuania, and Elena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, initiated the opening of the Ukraine Center . Located at Vytautas Magnus University in Vilnius, the center creates an open space for culture, education, and community services for the Ukrainian community in Lithuania. Over 60,000 displace Ukrainians remain in Lithuania today.
I always try to stop here on my visits to Lithuania. It’s an honor to be invited to visit with this community and hear their stories…such heartbreaking accounts of leaving their homeland. But these women and children remain strong and hopeful about the future.
Art can be therapeutic and continue to tie these children to all that they might be missing. I never come empty handed. It is my pleasure to bring games, puzzles. and lots of art supplies for the children to use when they visit the center. What a joy for me to see their happy faces and see their wonderful creations.
